| Chobo Tansu
|
Ming Chest
|
| The Tansu first appeared during Japan's Edo period (1615-1780) as a
functional and aesthetically pleasing means of storage. Ours is of the
Chobo-dansu variety, which traditionally featured elaborate metal
hardware, used by merchants to impress customers. This fine example of
the style is crafted of chestnut-finished elm wood with a sliding-door
compartment and 11 drawers |
Skilled artisans use traditional Asian joinery to build this
handsome chest, crafted entirely without nails or screws. Made of solid
plantation walnut that is responsibly grown and selectively harvested,
the chest has two generous drawers and one cabinet |

Cerulean Display Case

Kimono Tansu
|
| Skillfully hand crafted and beautifully finished, they're also an
outstanding value - especially when purchased as a set of three. Whether
the cabinets are placed together as a dramatic focal point or mingled
with other furniture throughout the room, their glass shelves showcase
artwork and books to best advantage. Talented woodcrafters build each
piece from reclaimed elm, using intricate all-wood joinery to ensure
seamless construction. Next, their doors and sides are set with panes of
clear, tempered glass. Finally, the artisans apply black paint, rubbing
it by hand to reveal hints of the wood beneath, then sealing it with
clear lacquer for a high polish. Doors secure with a pin lock. Hardware
is antiqued brass. |
Heirloom-quality display case is built from select Asian hardwoods.
It has a traditional black lacquered finish that is edge rubbed to
reveal hints of warm tobacco. The three open shelves have a pale blue
background that creates a serene setting for objects on display. |
Designed after the chests used to hold kimonos during Japan’s Meiji
era, this piece provides handsome storage in any room. Use it in the
living room as a side table or in the bedroom as a unique nightstand.
Handcrafted from elm, it features all-wood joinery for a seamless look
and has a waxed finish that accentuates its grain and golden color |

Step Tansu
|
| Boldly detailed openwork creates visual interest in this unique
occasional chair. Handcrafted from solid mahogany with a high back and
arms, and a hand-woven double-caned seat. Hand applied black lacquered

Gansu province. An ideal media cabinet, the piece is crafted from solid
elm with a broad top, dovetailed drawers and two double-door cabinets,
each with a single shelf. The lacquer is applied in layers for saturated
